Resource Conservation

Geely Holding integrates the concept of sustainable development into the entire automotive value chain. The company actively considers the impact of raw material selection and design, production and manufacturing, packaging and logistics, and resource recycling to contribute to the green transformation of the automotive industry ecosystem.

Future-Oriented Nature-Positive Transition

As a global enterprise, Geely Holding actively assumes its responsibility for protecting the natural ecology. We are strategically committed to becoming a nature-positive enterprise and focus on balancing and interacting productively with natural ecological resources. Guided by the six directions towards a nature-positive transition, we have developed and implemented comprehensive action plans. These plans encompass various dimensions, including metal mineral mining, material supply chain optimization, energy mix adjustment, and production mode transformation. Through these efforts, we continuously enhance resource conservation management, lead nature-positive demonstrations, and accelerate the transition towards a nature-positive status. We are establishing a clear commercial pathway for nature-positive transition, fostering a virtuous cycle between natural resources and commercial development, and striving for future-oriented commercial prosperity.

  • Management of natural-related risks and opportunities

Guided by our commitment to nature-positive practices, we actively identify and manage risks and opportunities associated with the natural environment. By elucidating the interplay between our operations and the natural environment, we navigate the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities arising from environmental changes.

  • Natural capital assessments

We conduct natural capital assessments at the plant level to cultivate nature-positive facilities. This process involves tracing the origins of metal and mineral raw materials, continually enhancing their “nature-positive” attributes, and striving for source control to catalyse a shift throughout the entire industry chain towards a nature-positive development model.

  • Clean energy promotion

Advancing clean energy usage refers to managing and promoting the adoption of electricity generated from renewable energy in production and operations. Geely Holding spearheads the development and commercialization of new energy products, particularly green methanol vehicles. Concurrently, efforts are underway to promote green methanol production, develop methanol injection systems, and implement ecological closed-loop practices to advance nature-positive energy transition. Research and promotion of clean energy technologies persist, with a steadfast commitment to enhancing energy efficiency, curbing carbon emissions, and propelling the automotive industry’s green transition.

  • Transition toward energy-efficient and circular production

We steadfastly promote the innovative transition towards energy-saving and circular
production models. Specifically, we undertake power battery recycling initiatives, leverage cutting-edge technology, and establish recycling frameworks to maximise the full lifecycle value of batteries. Simultaneously, we vigorously advocate vehicle recycling pilot projects to explore comprehensive solutions encompassing scrapped vehicle disassembly, component remanufacturing, and material recycling, thereby fortifying a holistic green industrial chain spanning manufacturing to recycling.

Green and Efficient Full Chain Resource Management

Geely Holding champions the philosophy of circular economy, aiming to curb excessive consumption and reliance on natural resources while achieving green and efficient full chain resource management. From the phase of product design, we integrate the principle of harmonious coexistence among humans, vehicles, and nature. By establishing an ecological, circular economy system for automobiles, we craft eco-friendly products and services, and foster resource conservation and closed-loop production throughout the entire automotive lifecycle from production to scrappage. Our endeavors seek to enhance resource utilization efficiency across the chain, mitigate resource consumption, curb environmental pollution, and propel the circular advancement of the automotive industry.

  • Sustainable R&D and design

Geely Holding advocates sustainable research and development, integrating ecofriendly and circular concepts into the design phase. We employ lightweight design and recyclable material selection methods to curtail the consumption of non-renewable resources. Additionally, the recyclability criteria is incorporate into material selection for vehicle bodies, components, and interiors, and management requirements from design, sourcing, manufacturing to sales is clarified to continuously enhance vehicles’ renewable utilization rates.

  • Eco-friendly plants

In line with the principle of “building green plants that is environmentally friendly”, we have established an environmental management system, primarily centered on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management, documented procedures, standards, and evaluation criteria. We are also certified by ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems. Meanwhile, measures are taken to achieve zero emissions of wastewater, waste gas, and solid waste through pollution reduction at the source, process control during production and manufacturing, and end-of-pipe treatment. These efforts promote clean production practices and standardize environmental protection measures within our plants.

  • Green logistics

We are continually refining our vehicle logistics transportation strategy. On one hand, we are establishing a green logistics system, which involves adopting clean energy transportation tools, optimizing transportation routes, and enhancing loading efficiency, to minimize the environmental impact of product transportation. On the other hand, we are developing a green logistics platform to offer our customers low-carbon and efficient logistics solutions, setting a new standard for green logistics.

  • Green packaging

We apply the circular economy principle of “reduce, reuse, and recycle” in logistics packaging. Minimalistic packaging is prioritized to minimize the use of materials from the outset. Our approach involves recycling, tighter management, and extended lifespan of packaging materials, thereby maximizing their utilization. Furthermore, we actively study and promote diverse reusable materials for logistics packaging, consistently integrating eco-friendly practices. During the reporting period, Geely Auto attained a 100% recycling rate for packaging materials.

  • Recycling and dismantling

In response to the European Union’s End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive, which aims to enhance the quantity, quality, and value of recycled materials, we actively advocate for extending producer responsibility. Our subsidiaries, Geely Auto and Farizon Auto, serve as pilot bases for the extension of producer responsibility of automotive products under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. Both the passenger car and commercial vehicle divisions have established circular manufacturing centers, dedicated to fostering an industrial cooperation network focused on the above-mentioned framework. Through closer collaboration among upstream and downstream in industry chains relating to automotive production, raw material production, power battery production, and comprehensive utilization, we strive to minimize the adverse impact of waste materials on the environment.

Future-Oriented Nature-Positive

Aiming to become a nature-benefiting enterprise, we monitor and assess nature-related risks at every stage of the automotive lifecycle, including design, procurement, production, use, and recycling. By reducing our impact and dependence on nature, we strive tirelessly for a harmonious coexistence between humanity and the natural world.
