At the 3-year anniversary of PROTON and Geely, we speak to the people involved to see how the collaboration with Geely has helped the car brand’s development since their cooperation began in 2017.

Exactly three years ago, on 23rd June 2017, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed an agreement with Malaysia’s DRB-HICOM to acquire a 49.9% stake in PROTON, the country’s national carmaker. Since then, the company has made extensive changes towards its management and operational practices, improvements on product quality and after sales service, as well as introduce the current market leader for SUV in Malaysia, the Proton X70.

As a result, PROTON has experienced tremendous sales growth in 2019, while capturing a larger portion of the automobile market share in Malaysia. The brand has also received much praise from the public with high anticipation for upcoming models.

None have experienced these changes better than those who have been working for PROTON since before the partnership was forged. We spoke to some of its veterans to hear of their personal sentiments towards the changes in PROTON in the past three years. While at it, we also met with some new talents who were attracted to join the company after hearing of its collaboration with Geely, hoping to be a part of the change as the company expands its footprint in Malaysia and beyond.
