2025 November 14th, Belem, Brazil – Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) joined the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem, Brazil and shared the Group’s achievements and progress towards carbon neutrality. As one of the earliest Chinese members of the United Nations Global Compact, Geely Holding was invited to COP30’s opening forum and the China Pavilion side conference to speak on its technology driven green transformation.
Building a New Benchmark for Green Manufacturing and Promoting a Full-Chain Circular Management Model
As a leader in green manufacturing, Geely Holding has integrated green concepts throughout its supply chain and established an intelligent manufacturing ecosystem covering green factories, recycling, and sustainable energy. At the forum, Chen Yimin, Geely Holding Group Senior Vice President introduced Geely Holding’s 17 “Green Factories” 11 “Zero-Waste Factories” and 5 “Zero-Carbon Factories.” Six of Geely Holding’s factories use 100% renewable energy and compliance rate for industrial emissions for Geely Holding has reached 100%. Geely Holding pioneered the “full-value chain zero-waste management model” and has been recognized by China’s Ministry of Industry and Technology as well as the Ministry of Ecology and Environment for being one of the first “zero-waste enterprises” in China.
To optimize and reduce energy consumption, Geely Holding has developed the EMS 2.0 energy management platform which integrates IoT and AI to achieve dynamic monitoring and optimization of energy usage. In addition, Geely is accelerating the construction of site integrated microgrids combining wind, solar, and energy storage.
Geely Holding has become a major advocate of industrial scale recycling. In addition to using recycled steel and aluminium in its products, the recyclability rate of Geely vehicle bodies has reached 96.6%.
Through incorporating green, low-carbon, and waste-free practices into the Group’s supplier qualification system which now covers 481 suppliers and 2,488 part types, Geely has achieved a reduction of over 18,000 tons of waste.
Geely Holding is committed to making green energy applicable across different mobility scenarios through intelligent green fuel technologies. Today, the Group has established a complete methanol ecosystem from carbon capture, methanol production, transportation, refuelling, to end-user applications. The world’s first 100,000 ton green methanol plant invested in by Geely has started operations and is reducing annual CO2 emissions by 160,000 tons. Geely Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicles has introduced its 49-ton methanol heavy truck which offers a 53% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to similar diesel trucks. More recently, the world’s first methanol-hybrid electric river barge, the “Farizon Visional 001” was launched. With a range of 1,500 km, the Farizon Visional 001 is capable of reducing energy consumption by 42% compared to similar marine vessels and can readily utilize green methanol fuels, providing a realistic solution to accelerating the global green transformation of the maritime sector.
Open and Collaborative Technological Innovation: Exploring New Ideas for Global Green Mobility
At the China Pavilion side conference, Geely Holding shared its achievements in address global climate change through global collaboration and innovation.
Together with Renault, Geely established the joint venture powertrain technology company HORSE Powertrain which focuses on the development of low-emission hybrid, alternative fuel, and electrified powertrain solutions. In Brazil, Renault and Geely has reached a strategic agreement to produce and sell low and zero-emission vehicles from the Renault Brazil production plant.
Geely Auto’s electric EX5 SUV model has already entered 33 markets worldwide and has consistently ranked among the top in EV sales in several markets. The affordable electric city SUV, Geely EX2 launched last week in Brazil, the first overseas market for the best-selling electric model in its segment. In Malaysia, Geely Holding has provided strategic support to PROTON for their latest electric products, the PROTON e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 5 helping accelerate the country’s electric transformation and contribute to Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap goals.
The concept of “Benefiting Nature” has been integrated into Geely Holding’s entire value chain in support of biodiversity conservation. This year, Geely Holding released its “Nature and Biodiversity Report” becoming the first Chinese automotive group to report on nature and biodiversity. The report referenced the UN Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the TFND disclosure framework, demonstrating Geely’s commitment to transparency and alignment with international standards.
Addressing global climate change is a marathon not a sprint, Geely continues to maintain a long-term vision towards the pursuit of carbon neutrality through green manufacturing, building low-carbon and sustainable industrial ecosystems, promoting sustainable practices throughout the automotive sector, and achieving a harmonious coexistence between enterprises, society, and the environment.
