2025 May 28th, Hangzhou. Geely Holding Group, a global mobility technology group, published the Group’s 2024 Sustainability Report highlighting progress towards its strategic goal of full value chain carbon neutrality by 2045. The reports can be found here on Geely Holding’s official website.

Eric Li, Chairman of Geely Holding Group in his address on ESG stated,

“In 2024, the world’s climate crisis has become ever more pressing and human society faces unprecedented challenges to sustainable development. Against this backdrop, Geely Holding is actively embracing green transition, pursuing breakthroughs in technological innovation and strategic transformation, and working to seize new opportunities for high-quality development, contributing Geely’s wisdom to a future of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.”

Focused on the goal of reaching operational carbon neutrality by 2030 and full value chain carbon neutrality by 2045, Geely Holding actively promoted its transformation towards new energy. In 2024, total aggregate sales across the group portfolio brands reached 3.33 million units with green new energy models reaching 1.48 million, an increase of 52% YoY. New energy penetration rate reach 45%, positioning Geely as a leader among global automotive groups.

Green Value Chain

By the end of 2024, Geely Holding saw 17 of its vehicle production plants being recognized as “Green Plants” and 4 plants recognized as “Zero-Carbon Plants.” Geely Auto has been recognized as one of the first “zero-waste enterprises” in China and only one in the automotive sector to receive the honour. Zeekr’s three production plants have been certified as “quiet factories,” highlighting the brand’s attention to green sustainable manufacturing. On the operational side, Geely has made significant progress in promoting new energy and low-carbon vehicles for private consumers, commercial logistics, and shared mobility usage, resulting in significant reduction of carbon emissions. Geely’s strategically invested green ride-hailing platform, CaoCao Mobility provided users with over 5.275 billion km of rides in 2024, reducing carbon emissions by 750,000 tons.

Over the last year, Geely has seen significant progress in building a green ecological chain with the application of green methanol technologies including carbon capture, methanol production, methanol transportation, methanol refueling, and methanol vehicles. Together with upstream and downstream partners, Geely is committed to building a carbon neutral closed loop system for green methanol. In China, the world’s first 500,000 ton green methanol production plant utilizing recycled captured carbon began pilot operations in Alxa, Inner Mongolia. Geely is a technological partner and strategic investor in the new plant. During the Harbin Asian Winter Games, Geely provided 350 methanol-hydrogen hybrid vehicles as the Game’s official mobility partner. The Games were the first time that methanol vehicles were used in official capacity for a global sporting event at such a large scale and also demonstrated the resilience of the green powertrain technology in extreme low temperature environments.

Accelerating Sustainable Mobility through Technological Innovation

Technological innovation has been a core driving force for Geely’s sustainable development. Over the past ten year, the Group has invested more than 200 billion RMB in R&D, established more than 10 R&D and design centers around the world, and now employs more than 30,000 researchers and engineers. In 2024, Geely saw significant progress made in new energy and smart technologies resulting in products such as Geely’s ShenDun Golden Batteries, which leads the industry in terms of safety and performance and the NordThor Super Hybrid powertrain system with a thermal efficiency reaching 46.5%, the highest in mass production and provides users with greater flexibility and lower emission mobility options. Technology advancements has also supercharged Geely’s capabilities in the field of battery recycling with the recovery rate of materials such as nickel, cobalt, manganese, lithium reaching 99% in Geely batteries.

Safety has always been Geely Holding first priority as an automaker. Over the past year, several models from Geely brands have set new benchmarks for safety, receiving China’s C-NCAP and Europe’s E-NCAP five star ratings.  The Zeekr 001 received a perfect score in the “China EV Fire Safety Evaluation” test. Lynk & Co 07 EM-P became one of the first to attempt and pass a high altitude bottoming out test for electrified vehicles. The Geely Galaxy E5 obtained an NESTA six dimension electrical safety certification, vehicle EM safety certification, and was honoured as China’s “Low Carbon Leader” model. Geely became the first automaker to commit to a full-domain safety concept extending the scope of automotive safety to four additional major areas including human life, health, property, and privacy.

Deepening Open Cooperation and Empowering Sustainable Development throughout the Value Chain

Achieving global sustainable development requires the joint efforts of partners throughout an entire industry value chain. Over the past year, Geely Holding has shared more of its supply chain management resources with industry partners, established a sustainable development digital platform, and accelerated the construction of a more open, transparent, and efficient global supply chain. Geely and Renault established HORSE Powertrain to provide highly efficient electrified powertrain solutions to global enterprises. The Group attended COP29 last year and has been an active participant in industry events such as World Intelligent Connected Vehicle Conference and Beijing Auto Show where it was able to share its experiences in improving the sustainability of China’s new energy value chain. As the only Asian member of the IATF, Geely is an important participant to the “Driving Sustainability” project.

Geely is not only deepening open cooperation with industry partners, it also expanding cooperation as part of its commitment to social responsibility. Over the past year, Geely’s “Blue Guardian” biodiversity protection project gathered more than 4,000 volunteers to participate, the “Green Pathways” project has operated for more than 11 years and partnered with over 100 primary schools, CaoCao Mobility has taken LEVC’s Magical Taxi Tour global and helped more than 6,000 children with disabilities or special medical conditions achieve their dream to visiting Disney.

In 2025, facing a complex and changing market environment, Geely will make becoming “a leader in green and intelligent mobility ecosystem” as its strategic vision, fully implement its sustainable development strategy, and accelerate progress towards the goal of full chain carbon neutrality by 2045.
