Geely Holding Deepens Commitment to Southeast Asia with New Collaborative Agreements

Geely Holding Group, China’s largest privately held automotive group, signed a Master Collaboration Agreement with DRB-HICOM Berhad outlining the next steps to be taken by the two parties in their collaboration to develop Malaysia’s Automotive Hi-Tech Valley . In addition, Zhejiang Geespace Technology Co. Ltd. signed Heads of Agreement with Altel Communications Sdn. Bhd. focusing on the development and implementation of high technology systems to complement Altel’s existing spectrum.

PROTON Inks Deal to return to South Africa

National carmaker PROTON has signed an agreement to appoint CMH Group as the distributor for Proton vehicles in South Africa. The signing, which was held virtually, will see the first shipment of fully imported (CBU) models go on sale in September, with the Proton X50 and Proton X70 leading the charge. This will be followed by the Proton Saga, which is making a return to the nation 10-years after sales ended in 2012.

PROTON, E-CAR-X, ALTEL Establish Three Way Joint Venture to Develop ASEAN Market

A joined venture was signed between Proton Edar Sdn. Bhd., the sales and marketing arm of PROTON Holdings (“PROTON”), ECARX (Hubei) Technology Co. Ltd. (“ECARX”), a connectivity company invested by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, (“ZGH”) and Altel Communications Sdn. Bhd. (“Altel”), a Malaysian-based telecommunications services provider. The three-way joint venture aims to establish a car connectivity R&D centre in Malaysia that will serve both the Malaysian market, as well as the greater ASEAN region. Shareholding of the company will be split accordingly between the three parties while key management personnel will be appointed in due course. In terms of staff, the joint venture company aims to aggressively recruit local talents.

At the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir witnessed the exchange of agreements between Malaysia’s national carmaker PROTON with Pakistan’s Al-Haj Automotive Group to build a new complete knock-down kit assembly plant in Karachi, Pakistan and an exchange of agreements between PROTON and China Construction Bank in which PROTON will receive a 1.88 Billion MYR (3.1 Billion RMB) loan for further R&D and infrastructure development.
